My suspicion is that these may be the early May '77 tapes (Cornell etc). Lemieux has long said that some of these Betty tapes were not in the Vault.

Anyway, if these tapes have spent this long outside the Vault, they're almost certainly in circulation (in pristine quality), but maybe we'll be surprised.

In my haste to type and listen last night, I mistyped a key point. Lemieux actually said that they received a bunch of Vault tapes that they were NOT expecting and were excited about. This could still be the Spring 77 stuff, but who knows.

He also went on to say that they know that people have some missing tapes of theirs, but that Rhino and Dead will not pay for tapes that are rightfully theirs. No negotiating with terrorists it would seem!

How could they be missing a lot of 76-79?

Not sure how they came to be missing. Perhaps they were part of the Betty tapes that didn't get back into the Vault. We've known for sure for awhile that Cornell 77 is not in the Vault.

That said, I would imagine that they have most of 76-79 in the Vault with some missing here and there.
